El cine mexicano "se impone"

Descripción del libro

Libro El cine mexicano se impone

Researchers Castro Ricalde and McKee present a documental work covering sources from the United States, México, Cuba, Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Spain and Serbia to account for the complex development of the Mexican cinematographic industry in the first half of the 20th century and its efforts to establish a national identity myth designed for local consumer commercialization and powerful enough to stand against Hollywood dominance. The study spans 2 decades from the first sound movie Santa (1932) to 1955, when the "Mexican cinema of the "Golden Age" had a preponderant role in the formation of a common cultural identity and the relationships developed all along the country. The feeling of being part of nation was fortified with this industry that was able to homogenize the way in which a large part of the population perceived themselves. This has been one of the aspects that caused the most interest at a national and international level."--Introduction.

Reformas estructurales

Libro Reformas estructurales

Sharply critical analysis of Mexico's recent round of ambitious structural reforms, particularly of oil industry and finance reforms, which author says show direct line of descent from 18th-century Bourbon reforms, politics of Porfirio Diaz and neoliberal ideals of Carlos Salinas de Gortari, historical antecedents vilified by many on left in Mexico. Author was Mexico's youngest elected governor and is currently serving in Congress.
