The manuscripts were begun in Milan while Leonardo da Vinci was in the service of Ludovico Sforza. He continued the work during the last 25 years of the artist's life. The works were subsequently published in the collection and based on Leon Battista Alberti and Cennino Cennini. After Leonardo's death, those notebooks passed into the hands of his pupil and heir Francesco Melzi, and he published them later. It was a task of overwhelming difficulty due to its scope and Leonardo's idiosyncratic writing.

Anthological edition with 10 texts produced from the 1970's to present by noted artist, academic, and critic Luis Camnitzer. The critical essays are centered in art although examined from different perspectives. The author reflects, criticizes and deconstructs the way we understand the artistic system, its power nets and the incidence of the commercial market. One day some stretched-out gentlemen come and ask a father to be king. It seems a good opportunity, but in the end one must choose between being king and being a father. In a simple story, the authors invite us to reflect on the relationship of fathers and sons.
